Mangatainoka Hot Springs and the adjacent campsites will be closed for at least four weeks as of September 1st. This is for a major upgrade of the pools by DOC. I’ve heard that the new pools are going to be located closer to the river. The first photo is part of the forty-minute track from Te Puia Lodge and the other is of Mangatainoka Hot Springs.
I’ve visited Mangatutu and Mangatainoka hot springs twice in the last couple of months. The access road is okay but the ford needs to be low (no rain in a while), especially if you don’t have a high clearance vehicle. The two photos below are of Mangatutu Hot Springs which are near the trailhead to the three to four-hour hike into Mangatainoka Hot Springs.
